What is the FASEP?

  • FASEP stands for "Fellow" of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists.
  • It designates those individuals who have outstanding contributions to the vision, mission, and goals and objectives of ASEP and the profession of exercise physiology.

What are the Purposes of Earning the FASEP?

  • To acknowledge professional achievement and service to ASEP.
  • To encourage continued professional development and service to the Society.
  • To identify exercise physiologists who have demonstrated a high level of professional competence and ethical conduct in the practice of exercise physiology.

What are the Requirements for FASEP?

  • ASEP members can apply for Fellow status after three consecutive years of membership.
  • Shall have earned either a doctoral degree by the date of application or is a Board Certified Exercise Physiologist.
  • First author publication of three papers in either JEPonline or PEPonline on exercise physiology topics within the most recent five years.
  • First author book or book chapter publication related to exercise physiology within the most recent five years.
  • Two presentations at the ASEP national meetings within the most recent five years.
  • Recommendation letters from at least two Fellows of ASEP.

What is the Process for Advancement to FASEP?

  • Candidate files an FASEP application with ASEP Board of Directors by November 1 of each academic year.
  • Members of the Board of Directors evaluate the application to ensure that the requirements for Fellow Status have been met.
  • New FASEP members are recognized at the next National Meeting.

How Do you Maintain Fellow Status?

  • Attend at least one ASEP national meeting every three years.
  • Publish at least one book or article (e.g., research or professional development) every three years.
  • Demonstrate support of ASEP initiatives by serving on various ASEP committees and/or boards.

How Do I Apply for ASEP Fellow Status?

  • Submit a letter to Dr. Tommy Boone, member of the Board of Directors, expressing interest in FASEP status. The letter should address how and when each of the requirements for FASEP status was met (e.g., year joined ASEP, dates attended ASEP national meetings, etc).
  • Submit curriculum vitae to Dr. Boone with highlighted areas that relate specifically to the FASEP requirements.
  • Request two recommendation letters from FASEP members that address requirements for FASEP, particularly professional achievements and experience in exercise physiology and service to ASEP.
