● Template Compliance: All manuscripts must be inserted into the official JEPonline Microsoft Word Template (Downloaded Template click here). Text must be single-spaced, using 12 pt. Arial or Times New Roman font with 1” margins.
● Article Structure: Submissions must include a Title Page, Structured Abstract (max 250 words: Brief Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions), Keywords (4–6), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References. Tables and Figures should be formatted per the examples at the end of the template, but placed appropriately within the manuscript in portrait layout (no landscape layout).
The submitting author is responsible for all correspondence and certifies the following:(1) that all authors participated substantially in the submitted work; (2) that all authors have reviewed and approved of the final version sent to JEPonline; (3) that the manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere; (4) that the authors agree to a transfer of copyright to JEPonline; and (5) that there are no potential conflicts of interest.
● Submission and Publication Fees: A non-refundable $50.00 (USD) fee is required to submit the manuscript into the review process. After the review process is complete and authors submit the final version of the manuscript, a non-refundable $500.00 (USD) publication fee is required before publication is scheduled in the next JEPonline issue. JEPonline is published every-other month.
● Language & Roman Script: Manuscripts must be in English. All bibliographic information (references, names, and affiliations) must be in Roman script to ensure accurate indexing.
2. Peer Review & Editorial Process (WAME Standard)
● Double-Blind Review: JEPonline utilizes a double-blind process. Manuscripts will be anonymized to facilitate unbiased evaluation.
● Editorial Responsibility: Per WAME recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief has full authority over the entire editorial content and the timing of publication. Decisions are based on the validity of the work and its importance to the field of exercise physiology.
● Appeals: Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions. Appeals must be submitted in writing with a point-by-point rebuttal of the reviewers’ and editors’ comments.
3. Ethical Standards & Author Duties
● Originality: Submission implies the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere. JEPonline may use plagiarism-detection software to enforce COPE and WAME anti-plagiarism standards.
● Authorship Criteria: All listed authors must meet WAME’s definition of authorship: substantial contributions to the work, drafting or revising the article, and final approval of the version to be published.
● Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose all financial and personal relationships that might bias their work. This includes direct funding, equipment, or personal ties to relevant organizations.
4. Human & Animal Rights (WAME/Helsinki Compliance)
● Ethics Approval: Research involving human subjects must state that Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval was obtained. Participant anonymity must be protected unless written informed consent for publication is provided.
● Clinical Trials: ASEP encourages the registration of clinical trials in a public trials registry (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov) prior to the start of participant enrollment, as per WAME best practices.
5. Generative AI & AI-Assisted Technologies
● WAME Position on AI: AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) cannot be authors as they lack moral and legal accountability.
● Disclosure: Authors must declare the use of AI in a dedicated "Declaration of Generative AI" section. This must include the tool name, version, and specific purpose (e.g., "AI was used for language editing in the Introduction"). Use of AI to generate data or scientific conclusions is strictly prohibited.
● Human Stewardship: Authors are 100% accountable for the accuracy of AI-assisted content, including the verification of all AI-suggested citations to prevent "hallucinations".
6. Copyright & Open Access
● Rights Transfer: Upon acceptance, authors transfer copyright to JEPonline and ASEP.
● Open Access: Articles are immediately available to the public for free under a Creative Commons-style model, allowing users to download and share work with proper attribution
