The members of the ASEP Board of Directors, as stipulated by article IX of the "Articles of Incorporation of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists", consist of no fewer than three or more than 10 members:
After one year of office, the Board of Directors can vote on the removal or addition of individuals from/to the Board. Voting members of the Board can be elected into office and have voting rights. Other individuals can be elected to the Board of Directors without voting privileges. The Board decides, on the basis of a two-thirds majority, on the admission of further members to the Board. The Board of Directors selects a President of the Society based on the needs of the Society and the suitability of a presidential candidate to fulfill those needs. The duration of the term in office for the President of ASEP is one year. However, the Board of Directors may select a president to complete one or more additional terms in office. Tommy BooneTommy Boone is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise Physiology at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. He is the Director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratories for scholarly research in exercise physiology. He has written widely on exercise physiology topics, has authored numerous chapters in books, and has written nine books in gymnastics, sports nutrition, and professional development of exercise physiology. In addition, he has authored numerous print copy and electronic publications publications, and has presented at regional and national meetings. As a founding member of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP), he was the first President and is founder of four electronic publications, the Journal of Exercise Physiologyonline, the Professionalization of Exercise Physiologyonline, the ASEPNewsletter, and the Professional Journal of Exercise Physiology. Robert RobergsRobert Robergs was born on March 12, 1960, in Melbourne, Australia. He completed a B.Sc. degree in Physical Education and Geography at the State College of Victoria-Rusden Campus, completed his M.A. in Sports Science and Cardiac Rehabilitation from Wake Forest University in 1987, and earned his Ph.D. studying under David Costill at Ball State University in 1990. Robert has worked at the University of New Mexico since 1990, and has directed the Exercise Physiology Laboratories since 1995. Robert co-founded ASEP in 1997, and has been editor-in-chief of ASEP’s research journal, JEPonline, since 1998. Robert received tenure in 1997 and was promoted to full professor in 2002. Robert has published more than 60 research manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, co-edited a text in clinical exercise physiology, co-authored a graduate level exercise physiology text, and co-authored an undergraduate level exercise physiology text. Robert's research interests are in altitude physiology, cardiovascular physiology, muscle metabolism and the scientific validity of indirect calorimetry. Lonnie LoweryDr. Lowery is dually trained in exercise physiology and nutrition. He is Assistant Professor of Nutrition at the University of Akron, a Board of Directors member for ASEP and Editor of the ASEP National Newsletter. Shane PaulsonShane completed his undergraduate (’96) and Master’s (’98) Exercise Physiology degrees at the College of St. Scholastica. Shane has been an ASEP member since it’s inception in 1997 and holds his board certification from the initial offering in 2000. He is a lifetime member of the Minnesota Association of Exercise Physiologists (MNAEP) and served as its President for 2007-2008. Drawing from his broad experience and practice of Exercise Physiology in the field, Shane has been successfully creating opportunities and recognition for Exercise Physiologists as healthcare professionals. Shane developed and implemented the BESTAge program, an Exercise Physiology-based Quality of Life program, in multiple Long Term Care facilities in Minnesota with support from the Minnesota Department of Human Services from 2007-2009. Shane is the founder and CEO of PhysioLogic Human Performance Systems, LLC. where part of his goal is to create an employer model that requires EPC credentialed Exercise Physiologists for the work of the company and its clients. Shane is proud to serve as on the ASEP Board of Directors and hopes his entrepreneurial perspective will assist in the efforts of the organization . |
