ARTICLE I

ARTICLE II

Purpose:

  • To provide a unified student voice at National ASEP meetings in regards to issues that are of concern and importance to students in exercise physiology.
  • To provide a strong link between the academic and professional development of exercise physiology students and the American Society of Exercise Physiologists.
  • To provide a forum for leadership and exchange of information to stimulate discussion and collaboration among students of exercise physiology.
  • To provide a forum and opportunity for students to present and discuss current research in exercise physiology.
  • To provide a local resource guide and networking opportunities for students and professionals in the community.
  • To promote and encourage the exchange of ideas and information regarding all aspects of exercise physiology.
  • To provide a forum in which students may voice their opinions concerning the future direction of the exercise physiology profession.
  • To increase visibility and enhance the image of the exercise physiology profession, especially at the University of New Mexico and in the State of New Mexico.
  • To participate in, and to aid the American Society of Exercise Physiologists, in the development and implementation of public policies and procedures concerning exercise physiology, especially at the state level.
  • To make a commitment to quality and integrity in exercise physiology through adherence to the ASEP's formalized code of professional responsibility.
  • ARTICLE III

    Membership:

    Student membership is reserved for students in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or Exercise Technology. Students are required to be registered members of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists at the national level. Professional members must hold a degree in exercise physiology, exercise science or exercise technology and/or be working in the field of exercise within the community. Professional members must also be members of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists.

    ARTICLE IV

    Officers:

    Officers will be appointed for the first year of the Chapter's operation under the supervision of the faculty advisor. Thereafter, officers will be elected by a majority vote on a yearly basis. Elections will take place during the September meeting and those elected will take office at the annual ASEP meeting held in October. No more than two consecutive terms may be served by an individual in a particular office.

    ARTICLE V

    Advisor:

    The advisor will be selected from the faculty in the Exercise Science program and will serve a term of 2 years. There are no restrictions on the number of terms that a faculty member can serve. Selection of an advisor will be based on a majority vote at the general election for student officers.

    ARTICLE VI

    Meetings:

    Two regular meetings per semester (excluding summer semester) will be held. Special meetings may be held throughout the year if necessary. Meetings will be called through consensus of officers.

    ARTICLE VII

    Quorum:

    The number of members required to conduct business will be 1/2 of total membership.

    ARTICLE VIII

    Legislation: Parliamentary procedures will be followed to conduct business at meetings. All members have equal rights and privileges and the majority vote decides issues. A motion(s) can be presented and seconded during any business segment of regular meetings. Debate will then follow and the opportunity to propose amendments to motions if necessary. Voting methods may consist of ballot, hand, general consent, rising, or voice.

    ARTICLE IX

    Amendments:

    A motion may be amended by inserting, deleting, and/or substituting a phrase in any motion. Amendments are first voted upon; then the motion as amended is voted upon.
