Responsibilities:

Hebrew SeniorLife has an opening for a Health & Fitness Specialist. This is a part time 24-hour position (could possibly become full time 40-hour). The Health & Fitness Specialist will be responsible for the following:
1.Teaches group exercise classes
2.Conducts supervised exercise sessions
3.Creates and implements individual exercise programs
4.Conducts fitness consultations and physical performance evaluations
5.Physical performance includes: 1-RM testing and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), assess vital signs and resting blood pressure
6. Conducts resident programming surveys
7.Assists in the organization of educational activities and fitness events
8.Records participant and programmatic data and maintains vendor information
9.Maintains all fitness facility equipment and areas
10.Remains informed regarding relevant up-to-date research (HSL&other) and trends within the fitness industry
11.Attends and contributes to fitness and housing site administration staff meetings
12.Works closely with site Fitness Director and/or HSL Manager of Fitness with regards to all aspects of health and fitness programming.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field and/or a minimum certification level equal to the ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor (HFI), and current CPR certification. Knowledge of aging and disability issues a plus. Computer proficiency (i.e., ability to use MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel is preferred). Must be able to lift 50 pounds and have the ability to transfer and assist residents’ on/off exercise equipment. Must be able to recognize exercise contraindications and refer to appropriate health professional as well as recognize signs of fatigue, injury and physiological stress and respond appropriately. Must be able to teach and motivate elders effectively and treat both elders and co-workers courteously and with respect. Must behave in a friendly and professional manner, and promote good relations in-house and with outside vendors. Must demonstrate flexibility, adjusting behavior, style or schedule as circumstances change.
